2001 MFL Awards

Tim Smith, of the Mississauga Mudcats, is the 2001 MFL MVP. Tim was a threat for the Mudcats at the plate all year, hitting .375 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 22 games. He also provided invaluable defence at second base and right field.

Scott Wagar, of the Mississauga Chiefs, takes home his second consecutive Most Valuable Pitcher Award. Scott finished the year with a record of 7-5-2 with one save and a 1.22 ERA. Pitching the vast majority of the Chiefs' games, he collected 146 strikeouts while giving up only 11 walks in 103 1/3 innings.

Jim Hurst, of Streetsville Sports, is the playoff MVP. Finishing with a record of 4-1 in the playoffs with one save, Jim pitched the MFL game of the year in the playoff round-robin, striking out 17 and allowing only three hits in a 5-0 win over the Chiefs. He went on to collect two of Streetsville's three wins in the final and saved the other game.

Doug Cash, of Streetsville Sports, is the 2001 recipient of the Hazel McCallion Sportsmanship and Dedication Award. Overcoming an early season injury, Doug went on to lead his team to the regular season and playoff championships. Doug is long-time player in the league and a member of the executive.

Streetsville Sports successfully defended their playoff championship, downing the Mississauga Mudcats three games to two in the best-of-five final. With their victory, Streetsville earns a "AA" berth for the 2002 NAFA World Series in Salem, Oregon.

Streetsville Sports also took home the regular season crown, finishing with a 10-9-3 record, edging out the Chiefs by one point.
